Ford is the top American car manufacturer and actively introduces new technology to offer drivers convenience and information. Their app, FordPass, allows Ford owners to control their vehicle, get help on the road, and make secure payments, right from the palm of their hand.

Ford partnered with us to create a concept that re-invents the way Ford owners maintain, control, and monitor their vehicles.

The Challenge

Overtime, FordPass had a lot of features created and refined by various teams across Ford, resulting in an app that felt disjointed. Ford worked on combining and rationalizing these features, but wanted an outside perspective on how these could be organized, accessed, and navigated considering a user-first approach, without the history of the app influencing the result.

Based on our ongoing research of Ford users’ needs and priorities, our team redesigned a task-based app journey, prioritizing optimal placement and grouping of vehicle controls, new logic, and simplified flow to give the user an intuitive experience.

Outcomes

The redesign decisions, driven by customer insights, resulted in a context-based design that surfaced status or service information when issues needed to be addressed. This content sensitive approach helped make a feature-rich app feel simple and smart by giving users what they need when they need it.

Due to confidentiality, we can't talk publicly about specific design decisions. The final redesign concept was used as a guiding light for the next version of the FordPass app.
